For almost 300 years the Orangery at Hanbury Hall has been used for the nurturing of exotic plants. It sits within a landscape partly constructed and controlled to suit the aesthetic and fashionable tastes of the property’s successive owners. Originally defined on four corners by exquisitely carved stone Pineapples, the building occupies a space very close to where the clay used to construct it was unearthed.

Comprising four site specific works, aspects of Landscape, Science and Technology are explored through what the artist terms 'active' sculpture - objects which through certain combinations of materials become more than static forms. This may occur through chemical or physical reactions as in 40 MHZ — whereby a collection of Lemon batteries in series power a low frequency radio transmitter.

This work forms the first solo show of artist Christopher Hodson, having graduated from MA Fine Art at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design in September 2009. Set in and around the Orangery at Hanbury Hall, the show has been kindly supported by The National Trust, Worcestershire Contemporary Artists, PITT (an artist led project space in Worcester) and Samantha Johnson.

Over the past 4 years the artist has exhibited in a number of high profile shows including; Roll Up Art (University of Architecture, Bucharest), Ctrl-Copy (Online project), Close Encounter (New Generation Arts Festival 2008, Birmingham), Mission Control (PITT, Worcester) MECA (Malvern Exhibition of Contemporary Art), 14°N 32°W (Online Project curated by the artist) and more recently GONGOOZLER (Grand Union, Digbeth).
